Brighton, Tenn. (November 5, 2012) –
Michael Craig, a senior at Brighton High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Craig was one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. He and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Craig, a senior, excels in the classroom and is a role model for his classmates. He holds a 4.0 unweighted grade point average, scored 35 on the ACT and was selected to attend the Tennessee Governor’s School for Humanities at the University of Tennessee-Martin, where he took religious studies and political science. Craig has been recognized for the highest average in geometry and U.S. history. He finished sixth in Algebra II in the Dyersburg State Community College math competition.
With FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Craig competed and placed fourth in accounting and third in ethics as a sophomore. As a junior, he finished first in ethics and first in personal finance at the regional competition and also finished fourth in agribusiness and fifth in personal finance at the state level. Craig is a member of the National Honor Society, Youth Alive, Mu Alpha Theta and the tennis team.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
